Relate

How can I relate to this child or who do I know that can relate with this child? This question is key because you need to gain the child’s respect right away. A child can tell if a person is being dishonest or “fake” with them. BUILD A RELATIONSHIP!
 

Evaluate

Evaluate this child and family. What are the good qualities the child and family have? Then recognize qualities that need worked on and address them. Constructive Criticism and positive reinforcement is key!  

Appreciate

What about this child is so special and how can we bring it out? Every one has a gift. It is up to you to find out what your gift is and give it. What does this child appreciate? Our job is to figure this questions out.

Listen

How can I learn what this child is in need of? How do I gain the respect of this child while giving it? ACTIVELY LISTEN!

These are all ways we will create structure and install self-respect, respect, discipline, and maturity in children we work with. Remember at this time it is not about you it is about the child.
